Hi Folks,

We've been getting quite a few calls about suspension lowering lately. We've been lowering motorcycles for over 25 years now, so we understand both why and how.

Touching the ground is the most common reasons to lower the bike. In some cases it is as simple as the addition of special internal spacers in the fork and shock. In other cases it requires modifying or changing the springs and custom machining.

Race Tech offers Suspension Lowering Services for all motorcycles with rebuildable suspension. This includes both dirt and street bikes as well as ATV's.

We generally recommend lowering 25mm (1 inch). We would be glad to discuss your particular circumstances. NOTE: Lowering affects ground clearance so some models will not be able to leaned over as far. Some models come lowered stock. In this case we recommend it should only be lowered further for show applications.

Lowering the suspension involves installing spacers internally. We do not recommend lowering linkages as the tire can contact the fender in some cases.

Generally both the front and rear should be lowered the same amount to maintain the front end geometry. We offer GMD Computrack services to check the geometry and alignment.

We suggest the suspension be re-valved with our Gold Valve Kits during the lowering process. This will set the valving properly for the decreased travel.

In some cases, shorter springs are required to accommodate the shorter suspension length. This is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Some race bikes such as the F450 Moto Conversions are much more involved and require changing the bottoming points as well.

Another solution to gain inseam clearance is to cut the seat down. Josh Geraurd of Corona Motorsports does an excellent job at reasonable prices. Call him directly at 951.735.2030 or email
